
Ingredients:
Green Papaya - 1
Urad Dhal - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – ¼ tsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Red Chilies – 2
Curry Leaves
Chili Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
Jaggery - 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves – 1 Tb spoon
Oil – 1 – 2 Tb spoon
Salt
Method:
- Remove the outer skin and cut papaya into small squares.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, jeera. When it splutters, add urad dhal, split red chilies and curry leaves.
- When urad dhal has turned brown, add papaya pieces.
- Add red chili powder, turmeric, jaggery and salt to it.
- Mix well, cover and allow it to cook on low flame without adding water.
- Cook until done.
- Serve hot with Chapati or as a side with hot rice and dhal.

PS: People who are trying to conceive or who are in their first tri-semesters, please avoid eating papaya, as they say it heats your body and plays a big hand in abortion. Avoid both raw and ripe papaya.

Papaya subzi looks lovely Ash...my mom would make it...like the addition of jaggery...i am sure it would have tasted great.

hi, I too make this palya, but not so often because even though it is very good for health my mom told me that it produces lot of heat in the body Kaayi papaya is not good for people who want to conceive & it will help in abortion. I do not know how far it is true!!, you need have to publish this comment if u want, I felt like telling you.It is just an exchange of thoughts.

Looks lovely..Me not familiar with raw papaya either... I remember as a kid my grandma used to feed us slightly raw papaya to get rid of worms in the stomach :) ... may be that is the reason why the vegetable rather puts me off!

Wow, that looks really tasty and easy to prepare Ashwini! We use raw papaya in gravy based curries, but had never tasted something like this. I will try it sometime, thanx for the recipe!

Papaya subzi looks nice. I don't like ripe papaya even though i know about the goodness of the fruit. Let me adopt this and include in m,y menu. Something is waiting for you in my blog.
